146 men from Auchtermuchty served in the First World War. 30 of these men died in Belgium, France, Italy, Egypt and Mesopotamia.
They are remembered in the War Memorial, a Memorial Plaque and Roll of Honour in the Auchtermuchty Church, a Roll of Honour in Dunshelt Hall, and a unique photo montage made of the men in 1920.

At the end of the War the global influenza epidemic was to hit Auchtermuchty hard. By February 1919 twenty folk in Auchtermuchty and District had died of influenza.

Auchtermuchty War Memorial was unveiled in 1920 as a memorial to the men of the Parish who had died in the Great War. The Monument was designed by Reginald Fairlie; the figure was carved by Alexander Carrick, Edinburgh, and the monument was carved and built by Marshall Meek, father and son, Auchtermuchty.
